Rooted in Malton. Growing Creativity Across Ryedale
You Will Be C.I.C. is a Malton-based Community Interest Company working across Ryedale and North Yorkshire to create cultural events, support rural artists and strengthen local connection.
We deliver Malton events, public art trails, open studios and family friendly events in North Yorkshire that are built with the community, not imposed on it.
We are not a commercial events company. We are not a corporate charity. We are a locally grounded organisation with a strong sense of place — and 100% of our profits are reinvested back into Malton and Ryedale.
Our Story
Where community and creativity meet
You Will Be was created in response to something we could see clearly. Ryedale is creative, but underrepresented. Talented artists are working from home studios, barns and spare rooms.
Families want accessible cultural events close to home. Independent businesses need footfall that reaches beyond one street or one weekend. Yet rural areas are often overlooked when it comes to North Yorkshire arts funding and long-term cultural infrastructure.
We saw brilliant one-off events with no follow-up. Artists struggling for visibility. High streets needing renewed energy. Communities travelling elsewhere for cultural experiences that could and should exist here.
So we created a Community Interest Company designed to fill that gap. Not with pop-up programming, but with sustained, community-rooted projects that build confidence, visibility and connection over time.
Our Mission is simple
To create and support cultural events in Malton and Ryedale that strengthen community life, increase access to the arts, and build long-term creative infrastructure.
We believe everyone has potential. Communities thrive when that potential is supported and connected.
Our long-term vision is practical and place-based:
Rural artists can build visible, sustainable careers without relocating
Families can access free or low-cost cultural events in their own towns
High streets benefit from increased footfall and collaborative activity
Public funding stays local and delivers measureable public benefit
We are committed to cultural regeneration that feels authentic to Malton and Ryedale — rooted in heritage, landscape and independent spirit.
Community Impact
Where community and creativity meet
Our impact in Malton and Ryedale is both social and economic. Socially, we create shared experiences. Public art trails, open studios and heritage festivals bring people together across generations.
They reduce isolation, particularly for rural creatives working alone. They offer families meaningful things to do in Malton without needing to travel.
Economically, our cultural events in Malton increase footfall and dwell time. Visitors explore independent shops, cafés and businesses while engaging with art and culture. Activity spreads across a wider footprint, not just a single venue.
We collaborate with over 30 stakeholders and regional partners to secure funding that supports long-term infrastructure. That funding helps ensure North Yorkshire arts provision reaches rural communities that have historically been underserved.
Cultural regeneration, for us, is not abstract. It looks like:
Sculpture on the high street drawing visitors into independent shops
Open studio weekends connecting buyers directly with artists
Seasonal festivals bringing energy into quieter months
Young people seeing creativity valued in their own town
We begin with consultation — listening carefully to artists, businesses, schools and residents. We look for the real needs behind the conversations: increased visibility for rural creatives, affordable and accessible events, opportunities for collaboration, and consistent year-round cultural activity.
From there, we design projects that respond directly to those needs while remaining financially responsible and sustainable. Our work is built on cross-sector collaboration and strong partnerships with local authorities and regional funders.
We operate with clear governance structures, transparent reporting and a commitment to measurable social and economic outcomes.
We are supported by regional funding bodies and work closely with stakeholders who share our commitment to delivering Ryedale community projects that create long-term value rather than short-term impact.
Our directors live and work in the area. Decisions are made with local knowledge, lived experience and accountability to the communities we serve.
Governance & Our CIC Status
The structure behind the mission
You Will Be is a registered Community Interest Company (C.I.C.).
A CIC is a limited company created specifically to deliver public benefit.
It includes an asset lock, which means its assets and profits cannot be distributed for private gain. Instead, they must be used to serve community purposes. In practice, this means that profits are reinvested directly back into Malton and Ryedale.
It means that decisions must demonstrate clear public benefit. It means governance is transparent and accountable. And it means the organisation exists for community good, not private interest.
This structure ensures that our work remains rooted in service, sustainability and place, not short-term gain.
